  7.     The French, goes the old song, they are a peculiar race.
  8. Culture Minister Jack Lang, who once said non to U.S. pop
  9. creations, has not only given in to rock 'n' roll but taken it
  10. under the government's wing. The French charge for le rock is
  11. Bruno Lion, 26, who also heads a Paris-based information center
  12. for pop music. Dubbed Monsieur Rock, Lion used to play the
  13. bass, but says, "It isn't what I consider myself best at." Nor
  14. does he aim "to impose French music at any price," though the
  15. beat may prove more and more to be un, deux, trois, quatre.
